always learning

So this post is long overdue but it is something that I knew I had to share. A few weeks...okay over a month ago...I went to Lousiana for a weekend of creative outlet. I attended a photography workshop taught by the uber-talented children's photographer skye hardwick. I left with lots of information, a few new photog friends and more inspiration than I know what to do with. So now all that is left to do is put everything that I learned to good use. And as the weather gets warmer, I will. So keep your eyes peeled, plenty of fun stuff ahead – as a start here are a few of my faves from my time there. enjoy!

fun with bottle caps

So we seem to have been drinking a lot of Orange Crush and Root Beer around the Falde household. So what else is there to do with all of those leftover bottle caps? Throw then away? No silly, make magnets!

Yep, I decided to make some homemade magnets with some pretty flowers on them because I am holding on to the belief that spring will get here one day. They aren't exactly perfect but that's what makes them homemade. enjoy!

year of handmade cards | birthday

Here is another addition to my plan to make a card for every occasion this year. This is one for the hubbies grandpa.

[my apologies for the poor and somewhat fuzzy picture quality, my SLR seems to be on the fritz so this was taken with my point and shoot....boo!]
stay tuned | in the next few weeks I hope to have a new assortment of invites to share!

new plan

So I have decided to set a plan in action to get more of my work out there for people to see. My plan is to make cards for all occasions this year (at least) whether it be a baby shower, a birthday or mothers day, everything will be handmade by yours truly. This was partially inspired by a new book I got about printing by hand, partially by my grandma but mostly just because it's fun! I think that letter/card writing was one of my first creative outlets and it is sadly becoming a lost art. I always enjoyed making cards to send to people and it is one of the reasons I started sonrisa creative.

Also, a few years ago when my grandmother passed away my family was cleaning out her stuff and found a box of letters that i had sent her over the years. This made me realize how much even the littlest thing can mean to someone. So this has caused me to make that little extra effort for every celebration/event or just because. So my apologies to those of you who's bday's have already passed this year (I'll catch you next year, promise). From here on out it's handmade all the way in honor of my grandma.

So here is the first of many posts to come about handmade cards. This one I made to send to some family members who have been going through a rough patch. I hope the little extra effort shows them that I care.

handmade goodies

I realized over the holidays that when I say I love to create things, I am not lying. Once the holidays rolled around my head filled with ideas of gifts and decorations to make, if only there was time for it all! Here is a small glimpse into some of the things I made pictured below:

corn pillows: filled with corn and can be microwaved for hours of warmth, I think I made about 20. So I may have gotten a little carried away. But I was having fun!

stockings: all I could find in the stores was Hannah Montana or other Disney themed stockings (not quite my style). So I decided why not make some! So they are not quite perfect, and could barely hold what Santa left in them but they are unique and are definitely more my style.

I also made a hand painted sign for my sister-in-law (sadly not pictured) and a few doggie beds for the pup. Needless to say I had a lovely time and I am already making a list for next year.
